Hidden Corners: A Project

Back to Random Shorts

Back in May of 2007 I came across a LiveJournal community called 100originalfics. The idea is that a writer claims a world, setting, or character(s) from their original work and writes 100 stories/poems/whatever centering on that theme. The catch is that there's a prompt table containing 95 one-word prompts (and 5 "Writer's Choice"), and each story has to be based around one of the prompts.

I decided to take the challenge and write 100 stories about the characters in my trilogy, specifically things about the characters that don't appear in the trilogy itself. In other words: backstories, future stories, missing scenes, and other little hidden corners of the world and characters that would take too long to tell in the actual story. Because each character has his or her own full story and unfortunately the format of the novel means that I can only tell parts of them.

That's what you'll find here. This is an ongoing project, so I don't have all 100 stories yet, but I'm getting there. Since I've treated these as mostly writing exercises to make me get back into thinking about the world and the characters, they're unedited and of varying quality. Some I'm proud of, some you can tell I forced myself to write even though I didn't feel like it. I've listed the ones I've finished in numerical order according to prompt number, though they can be read in any order. Some I'm starting to loosely organize into separate series within the challenge, but I won't be able to put them into their final order until after the project is finished. This list will be updated as I finish the stories. All stories have a blanket rating of PG-13 even though most of them aren't even that high. The links lead to the original LJ entries, which are public. The full prompt table can be found here (external link).
